What is a Precinct Coordinator and what are their responsibilities?

In addition to the Precinct Chair, the Bexar County Democratic Party has a non-statutory, volunteer, position of Precinct Coordinator. This position carries no formal responsibilities under the Texas Election Code, TDP Rules or BCDP Rules. While they do not hold voting rights and cannot make motions within the County Executive Committee (CEC) they do enjoy the privilege of the floor and may address the CEC.
The eligibility requirements of Precinct Coordinators are the same as for a Precinct Chair.
- You must be a registered voter, 18 yrs of age or older.
- You must reside and be registered to vote in the election precinct for which you will serve.
- You must not have voted in the primary election or nominating convention of another party within the same election year.
- You must affiliate with the Democratic party by either voting in the primary election or by signing an oath of affiliation.
Precinct Coordinators are expected to:
- Assist the Precinct Chair in getting to know the voters in their precinct
- Assist the Precinct Chair in providing voters with information about resources
- Assist the Precinct Chair in maximizing democratic voter turnout.
- Assist Democratic candidates campaign efforts during election cycles
Precinct Coordinators are encouraged to:
- Participate in BCDP committees
- Attend training sessions conducted by BCDP and/or TDP
- Become an election judge, or clerk.
- Become A Volunteer Deputy Registrar
- Become a BCDP sustaining member.
